We chatted with Alexa about the details that make a bathroom luxurious:

Master bathrooms have become both showpieces and pampering sanctuaries, a place where clients are often willing to splurge. Why do you think this space has become so important?

Today’s world is all hustle and bustle, loud noise and stress. It is important to have a safe haven and a place to recharge. Why not create a spa-like oasis in your own master bathroom?

What are your 5 must-haves for a luxury master bathroom?

  1. Lighting

  2. Hand shower

  3. Electrified magnifying mirror

  4. Storage: recessed medicine cabinets and extra deep shower niches

  5. A great waste paper basket!

What stays out on the countertop and what must be put away? Do you have a display or organizational go-to?

I love a clean and organized bathroom. Concealed storage is a must to hide all the products and contraptions we use on a daily basis. A beautiful accessories set can live on the counter top and make the things we need all the time both easily accessible and pretty.

Powder rooms can make an outsized impression on guests. They also give guests a rare opportunity to notice details without being observed. Does that affect your design choices for powder rooms?

Powder rooms are a place to go wild. I love a bold wallpaper or deep lacquer paint, a unique patterned tile floor, fun light fixtures and artwork, beautiful embroidered hand towels, and anything that makes the room into a jewel-box moment.

What’s the best way to create ambiance in a bathroom?

Lighting is a major factor for the right ambiance in a bathroom. You need to have lighting options: recessed lights, flush mounts, and sconces. It is so important to see when you need to, but even more important to have everything on dimmers, so you can turn things down, light some candles and relax. Powder baths can be a little dimmer with a pendant light and sconces. I love candles from Diptique, an arrangement of anemones in a silver julep cup, lavender Epsom salts, and Matouk towels.
